Kollell Programs

Relevant and stimulating Jewish educational programs that appeal to people regardless of age, background or level of observance

Adult Bar/Bat Mitzvah
Adult Bar/Bat Mitzvah is a two-year program, designed for those who did not have a bar/bat mitzvah as a child or who want a more meaningful experience the second time around.
The first year includes a study of Hebrew language and an exploration of many important themes in Jewish history, culture, holidays, literature, and practice. In the second year we continue the focus on Hebrew and learn to chant from the Torah and Haftarah as well as to lead services in preparation for the culminating event, the Adult Bar/Bat Mitzvah, held on a Shabbat morning with the entire congregation invited.

Adult Hebrew Classes

Want to be able to read along at services but have forgotten your Hebrew school education, or perhaps you did not attend Hebrew School? Contact Rabbi Ethan Adler for more information.

Family Programs

Throughout the year, Shabbat and holiday times are highlighted by family experiences. Special events include making challah and matzoh, setting up a sukkah, Hanukkah celebrations, Purim carnivals, catered Shabbat dinners, special guests at services, and more…Programs for young children are described below:

Pizza Shabbat - A service for the young and young at heart. Bring the little ones to services and still get them to bed on time! This program is designed to provide young children (and their families) with an opportunity to experience an age-appropriate Shabbat in the synagogue. This program is held from 6 to 7 pm on the first Friday of the month (check calendar). Using a beautifully illustrated, child-friendly prayer book, everyone shares a special story, traditional melodies, candle-lighting, challah, and a light supper of pizza and veggies. Contact Lisa Ahava or Jason Krumholz for more information.

PJ Library Story Hour* - Join us for our monthly celebration of storytelling! Stories feature the values of kindness, cooperation and respect, and are chosen for their connection to holidays and traditions. After the story, create something special to bring home. All little ones in the community (ages 2-8) and those who love them are welcome to attend!  Story hours are generally held the third Sunday of each month from 9:30 to 10:30 am (check calendar). Contact Lisa Ahava or Jason Krumholz for more information.

*PJ Library in Rhode Island is a program of the Jewish Alliance of Greater Rhode Island in partnership with the Harold Grinspoon Foundation.

  • Shabbat at the Beach – A once-a-month summer (June, July, August) Friday evening service on the beach. BYOB - bring your own beach chair

  • Lunch and Learn – Shabbat lunch and discussion of Shabbat Torah portion
